September 10th, 2021
Ten years ago, we became aware that many youth were being injured at work, and we wanted to do our part to decrease that number in any way that we could through proper safety training and education. From that day forward, Youth Safety Education Day was born. This year we celebrated our TENTH year!
The purpose of Youth Safety Education Day is to provide meaningful safety education, leadership, and awareness to youth across Saskatchewan (up to the age of 25) and beyond about the importance of workplace health and safety right when it matters most, at the beginning of the school year. By partnering, you, along with over 292 industry partners, organizations and schools, have helped us reached over 60,000 youth in a meaningful way!
Sadly, Saskatchewan has traditionally had one of the highest workplace injury rates in the country. Over 70% of youth get their first job in the service and hospitality industries, and over 45% of youth between the ages of 15-24 will experience a workplace injury in the province this year. Gaining valuable safety education before youth take their first step into the workplace or while currently employed in their first job is a KEY STEP in injury prevention.
On behalf of Service Hospitality, we would like to give a special thanks to everyone who supported us this year. We couldn’t have done it without you! A special mention to everyone who sponsored, supported, and was involved in this year’s events. Also, a special mention to all the organizations and school divisions that had their young workers and students involved this year, we can’t say thank you enough! We truly appreciate you taking the time to be a safety leader and participating in the most successful Youth Safety Education Day, the organization has had to date!
As this year’s event comes to a close, we have Youth Safety Education 2022 on our minds! We hope to continue expanding the number of partners and reach an even larger audience of youth. We can’t achieve this without your help! We look forward to connecting with you next year!

We are proud to share that Mr. Don Morgan, Minister of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety with the Government of Saskatchewan, has officially proclaimed September 10th, 2021, as Youth Safety Education Day!
This year, we held three successful virtual events reaching 60,393 students across Saskatchewan! We kicked off YSED with Do You Have What It Takes To Be Crowned Safety Champion with Service Hospitality Safety Advisor Brooklynn Radmacher, followed by two special guest speakers Dan Plexman, an International Professional Workplace Safety Expert and Chris Cederstrand, a former WHL hockey player who had a life-altering workplace accident. Special thanks to our guest speakers for sharing their personal workplace injury experiences and to all those who attended our virtual events this year!
