This year we plan to reach and connect with schools, organizations and industry members to help us reach over 25,000 youth across the country! Download and hang our poster in your school or workplace!

What is Youth Safety Education Day?

Youth Safety Education Day (YSED) occurs on September 10th every year. The purpose of this day is to provide meaningful safety education, leadership and awareness to youth across Saskatchewan and beyond (up to the age of 25) about the importance of workplace health and safety, safety at school, play or while socializing as well as psychological health and safety. Gaining this valuable information before you take your first step foot into the workplace or while you are currently employed in your first job is a key step in injury prevention.

Understanding the Stats

Young people are a VERY important part of our workforce. One in every 6 workers in Saskatchewan is under the age of 25. Almost one-third of high school students work while attending school full-time. Many will continue to work while participating in post-secondary education programs. Unfortunately, all too often a young person’s first work experiences are not as rewarding as they should be.

  • Young and new workers are the most at risk for injury on the job.

  • Nearly 4,000 young workers are injured every year in our province. The Regina and Saskatoon hospitality industries account for approx. 800 of these injuries.

  • Young worker injuries are not declining fast enough. On average, 3 young people die on the job each year.

These heartbreaks and injuries CAN be prevented with proper safety training and education. We are reaching out to you to help us raise awareness and take a safety leadership role by becoming a Youth Safety Education Day Supporter and participating in this year’s awesome activities! Be part of the cultural safety change today.

Do you have what it takes to be a safety leader?

If so, please download our YSED2020 Supporter Form and let us know how you will be raising awareness and contributing to this very important youth safety initiative! By doing so, you will BE ENTERED TO WIN all of our awesome prizes!

A day proudly proclaimed by the Government of Saskatchewan since 2012!

For the past 8 years, we have approached the Ministry of Education in Saskatchewan to dedicate a day to the safety of our youth in this province. The ministry has graciously agreed and exercised its powers to designate September 10th as Youth Safety Education Day for the 9th consecutive year. Minister Don Morgan stated in his letter to us that the government appreciates the ongoing efforts of Service Hospitality in building a culture of safe and healthy workplaces.
