Interviews with the Recipients
Keith Valdez
Why did you choose hospitality?
“Hotel and Restaurant Management is a one of the big industries under the umbrella of HOSPITALITY. This is a program designed to integrate theory and technical skills in both management and service orientation. Hotel and Restaurant Management does not restrict me to just the food and hospitality industry. This program is also a window of opportunity in jobs associated with corporate settings and entrepreneurship. The potential job market is much wider such as hotels and restaurants like casinos, resorts, cruise ship lines, convention centers, private clubs, golf courses, and seniors’ communities. Having my diploma in Business Management provides insights into me on way companies and organizations are run. Meanwhile, Hotel and Restaurant Management will give me an expertise and clear focus in hospitality that accords a dynamic, diverse, and fast-paced environment that will fire up my unique skills. Furthermore, 15 years of experience in customer service, plus my encounter and background in business and marketing would leverage me to a much higher position I am aiming for in the future not just an employee to be a successful entrepreneur.”
What are your future goals post-graduation?
“An opportunity to other potential industries – hospitality has a broad meaning but what stands out is the relationship between guest and host. Hospitality is a virtue of the soul that truly cares. As a people person like me, it is the best quality that I truly possess. I know that hospitality opens more fundamental roles in hotels and restaurants, amusement, events, and the airline industry. Entrepreneurial Plans – my ultimate dream is to own a coffee shop. My future place will give them a fresh ambiance, create a new vibe, and at the same time enjoy the coffee and delectable foods offered. I can’t wait to make this dream into reality and best practices from hospitality and Sask Polytech will give me an edge over my future competitors.”
