Regina Immigrant Women’s Centre: Workplace Safety – A Newcomers Guide

The Regina Immigrant Women’s Centre has hosted the SHSA numerous times to present Workplace Safety – A Newcomers Guide. This guide offers an introduction to workplace safety, for newcomers in Canada. The course content is taught through an easy to follow PowerPoint presentation, along with purposeful in-class activities to help further knowledge learned.

Some of the areas we discuss are:

• Hazards in the workplace

• The rights and responsibilities of workers

• Personal protective equipment

• WHMIS review

• Employment standards

• First aid in the work place

• Fire safety

• Bullying

• Harassment and violence at work

• Health and safety committees

• Tips on proper ergonomics

By using this program, students will learn to develop and identify strategies to address workplace health and safety scenarios in Saskatchewan.

We have a full facilitator’s chart, activities and presentation that we can share with you! This presentation has the options for us to come in and lead the presentation as well as, educating your inhouse employees to deliver this training!
