Mental Health – Are you stepping up to the plate?

According to a recent statement released by WCB Saskatchewan, statistics show that work-related mental health claims have increased by 142% from 2016-2018.

Are you affected by these results? Wondering what you can do to help your employees and organization?

Service Hospitality has proactively taken the lead in researching and developing a series of resources related to Psychological Health and Safety which have allowed us to accommodate the increased need of our members in this area.  Our Psychological Health and Safety resources include an audit tool to determine how your current practices compare to the CSA Standard.  The PHSMS audit then provides excellent direction for an individualized action plan for your business.

Why are the work-related mental health claims rising drastically in Saskatchewan? Many factors can play a part in an employee’s daily struggles with his or her mental health, but often, the predominant contributing factor can be found in the inter-personal relationships shared with his or her colleagues. If the person is continually harassed or disrespected by other individuals at work this often leads to poor mental health and reduced productivity.  As time goes on, it becomes very difficult for the employee to go to work every day and can even lead to an increase in absences from work. To help address this issue we provide an informative, one hour presentation called Respect in the Workplace that provides insight on how to create a healthy work environment where everyone feels welcome and safe.

In addition to a rise in work-related mental health claims, youth are also experiencing an impact on their mental health and has become a growing concern. Service Hospitality has stepped up and pledged to connect with youth and educate them in recognizing mental health disorders, while also providing them with relevant coping tools and resources. We have always been dedicated to educating youth about workplace safety and promoting injury prevention, it only makes sense that we have the same philosophy for mental health awareness.  It is our goal to prepare all workers in all areas of workplace health and safety. We provide mental health education and awareness by delivering a compelling mental health presentation to grade 8 students across Saskatchewan.  We pride ourselves in being the leaders in providing youth the important safety information they need to know for the workplace. We look forward to working with you in the future!
