It’s been nearly 12 years since I first walked through the door at Service Hospitality as the new Chief Executive Officer. In some ways, it seems like just yesterday, but in other ways, it seems like a lifetime ago. From the bottom of my heart, I wish to thank the 4,100 employers who are members of our association, the tens of thousands of workers who make up the association, the hundreds of organizations and people who partner with us, the incredible board members I have served under and the finest group of individuals I have ever been blessed to work with, the staff of Service Hospitality, for what has been the greatest workplace adventure of my lifetime.
Over the last 12 years, we have worked together to redefine possible. From an organization that in those early years struggled to reach an audience of 1,000 people, we blossomed into one that has reached just over 300,000 in my tenure and over 80,000 in 2021 alone. The purpose of this training, of course, was always to stop people from getting hurt. In 2009, there were 2252 injuries on the job in the service & hospitality industries of Saskatchewan. We are projecting for 2021 that 1247 people will be injured on the job in Saskatchewan… a reduction of over 1000 injuries per year! In the last 12 years, over 5600 injuries have been eliminated because of the hard work of industry and Service Hospitality.
I have given my heart and soul to this organization and its membership over the last decade with no regrets. I am so very proud of what we have accomplished together. But the time has come for me to take on new challenges and allow others with fresh and innovative ideas to come and bring Service Hospitality to even greater heights.
Bay Stenz, the Operations Manager for Service Hospitality, has agreed to step into the Interim Chief Executive Officer role effective November 22, 2021. Bay has been with me nearly every step of the way and brings a progressive style of leadership that is right for this phase of the evolution of Service Hospitality. She is an excellent choice to be “at the helm” during this critical transition for the organization.
I want to thank you all for the incredible experiences and memories, for your patience and kindness and the way you all inspired me to dream big and never give up on those dreams.
I sincerely wish you all the best.
George Marshall Chief Executive Officer, Service Hospitality
