The time has come to head back to work. You are excited to have a regular schedule again, but you know there will be changes to the workplace and new guidelines to follow regarding COVID-19 safety measures. But what does this mean for your regular, everyday safety procedures?
Your manager has informed you about social distancing in the workplace and to work alone if you can. But you’ve come across a delivery that needs to be moved to the appropriate location. You remember your manager’s words to maintain social distancing at all times, but you know the box is too heavy for you to carry alone. All organizations need to incorporate safety measures for COVID-19 while still enforcing existing safety procedures. In this scenario, consider other options, such as unloading the box prior to moving it, or using a lifting aid (such as a dolly). If there is no other way than to have two people lift the box, don appropriate personal protective equipment for yourself and another worker. Now, the two of you can lift the box together while staying safe.
Learning about the various changes implemented for the physical health and safety of yourself and others is tricky, but the mental health implications may become even more of a struggle when we return to work. Many of us will be returning to work with various issues arising through being at home during COVID-19, which could lead to tense interactions or personal pressures. It is important for us to know how to be together again in a respectful environment. We are delivering the webinar The Respectful Workplace on Thursday, June 25th at 10:00 am if you are interested in information and training on this topic.
If you are a leader in your organization and the safety duties rest on your plate but you are concerned about how to keep your staff safe during this time, we can help! On Tuesday, June 16th join us at 1:00 pm for our Health and Safety Leadership webinar. This webinar will outline the health and safety requirements of leadership, and the potential consequences of non-compliance. It is more evident now than ever before, that the health and safety of all individuals in the workplace are of utmost importance.
Understanding all the dynamics of staying safe in the workplace can be overwhelming. Please contact us directly at [email protected] for any questions you may have as you navigate the return to work process amidst the reopening of Saskatchewan.
