ANNOUNCING our 2020 Saskatchewan Polytechnic Scholarship Recipients!

It has always been said that safety starts at the top. This is why Service Hospitality supports the training and development of well-trained hospitality industry professionals who are preparing to not only run Saskatchewan hotels and restaurants successfully but safely, as well. 

We are honored to support this endeavor with a total of 3 scholarships being provided to students of the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Hotel & Restaurant Management Program! This diploma program provides industry knowledge and management skills which includes six weeks of practical work experience in various areas of the hospitality industry.  We would like to congratulate all of our 2020 scholarship recipients!

Taylor Strong-McCauley

Why did you choose hospitality?

“The whole hospitality industry has been in my life since I was very little.  I started cooking for my family and helping run a small family business when I was about 10 and have worked in the hospitality industry ever since.”

What are your future goals post-graduation?

“After I graduate, I plan to work my way up in the industry even if I must start from the bottom of the chain and work my way up. One day in the future after I get as much experience as I would love to open and run my own restaurant; I would be in the back of the house and another to run the front of house.”

What will you do to promote Health & Safety in your future job?

“All that I have learned throughout the hospitality program as well as my culinary program to ensure that safety steps are taken so that no one gets hurt for not taking proper steps.”

Ramanpreet Kaur

Why did you choose hospitality?

“I had a great interest in hospitality. It teaches me customer service which is the basis of nearly every role I am ever going to perform throughout my life. Having great customer service skills, teamwork, leadership qualities and using safety everywhere are all the skills that I wanted to learn in hospitality, and it works out too. Moreover, hospitality also opens many more opportunities for me and made me a better-rounded individual.”

What are your future goals post-graduation?

“I will build up my career in hospitality by working in hotels. I will grow my social skills by interacting with various of different nature. Currently, I am working in McDonalds restaurant, I wanted to pursue my career working in the hotels.”

What will you do to promote Health & Safety in your future job?

“I will try to implement proper rules and regulations regarding the safety of my colleagues. I will organize pre-shifts meetings and inform everybody about safety. Moreover, I will also try to organize monthly meetings and discuss about the safety issues with the management.”

Darcy Niblack

Why did you choose hospitality?

“I have been working as a chef since I was 18 years old. I love being in hospitality because of the people. I was currently in a manager’s position and didn’t feel I had enough knowledge in certain areas, so I decided to branch into the front of house.”

What are your future goals post-graduation?

“I would like to become a social events coordinator at a hotel later in life. When I retire, I would like to own my own bed and breakfast. I thrive off of weddings and events. Planning is my favourite thing to do.”

What will you do to promote Health & Safety in your future job?

“I will do everything I can to keep my staff safe. I will put all policies in place and educate everyone I work with. The staff is the most important aspect of a job, and I would like to support everyone in any way that I can.”
