A Shoulder to Lean on During Uncertain Times

We all know the saying “change is good”, but what happens when the entire world as you know it changes suddenly and with little warning? This is the reality that we are all facing as we learn to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic. To make matters more complicated, there is no COVID-19 guide to rely on for information and education. This leaves us to do our own research as we navigate through each changing day, a task which can be both daunting and exhausting.

Over the last few weeks, we have seen a great deal of unity occurring. Organizations from various industries Canada-wide have been coming together, collaborating and sharing information regarding COVID-19. An example of this is the Conference Board of Canada, along with their partners, offering a wide range of resources, including daily updates, webinars, blogs, reports, and videos

Of course, when talking about COVID-19 we cannot forget about the importance of psychological health and safety. To cover this very important issue The Conference Board of Canada is featuring a daily, easy webinar featuring subject matter expert Bill Howatt.

These webinars are between eight and ten minutes in length and offer straightforward information on a variety of topics including:

  • Managing anxiety and social isolation

  • Job loss

  • Fear and COVID-19

  • Coping in the age of social distancing

The purpose behind the daily webinars is to educate but also to provide the audience with a sense of hope. To quote Howatt in his Managing Anxiety and Social Isolation webinar, “our intention is to help assure in this challenging time that there is hope”.

Hope is certainly something that we could all use a little more of right now. No doubt we are all facing a lot of unknowns. Perhaps once this blows over, we will look back and appreciate the kindness of others who have stepped up to share their knowledge and resources. Perhaps the silver lining will be that we all move forward as a much stronger and more unified community.

Whether you are an employer, or an individual wanting to find reliable information on COVID-19 it is worth taking the time to check out the Conference Board of Canada site.
